Socialize new dachshund puppy you are bringing home.

These little puppies come into our world with little knowledge about people and this big world they have entered. They have a lot to learn – about people, other animals, the car ride to their new home, bicycles, vacuum cleaners and the list goes on…… They need a chance to learn about all these things in their new environment – They will need slow exposure to people, other animals and  their new surroundings in order to avoid being a fearful and anxious adult dog.  You will want to socialize new dachshund puppy early (8 weeks old) taking him around as many sounds, people, sights, other animals and places as you can. Prior to picking your puppy up at 8 weeks old, he has already had a great introduction to socialization with the mother and litter mates- now it’s your turn to socialize them to the human world.

As soon as your puppy has received his early puppy vaccines, you can begin to introduce him to simple things in his environment graduating to noisier situations and then to playing with children if he isn’t exposed to children in your home. Give him a treat when he accepts the new challenges without fear or timidity. The puppy should be exposed and accept men, women, children and people of all ages and appearances. They will soon become comfortable around anyone.

Puppy training classes are an excellent place to promote socialization. At this young age,  the puppy is like a sponge ready to soak up the correct training before they pick up bad habits. This is also a good opportunity for your new puppy to socialize with other puppies. Your veterinarian might have information  about  puppy training classes available in your area.

You will reap the rewards of taking the time to socialize your new puppy as you see your dog develop into a well socialized and friendly dog- happy training!
